Facilitating at Choose Two

Our Happy Place poster

For my third year independent project, myself and a fellow collaborator co-facilitated fourteen drama and dance workshops to members of Choose Two. This is a community group that is set up for young adults – ages 18 to 30 – with Profound or Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).

The sessions contained a mix of drama and dance tasks, that were open to interpretation, all focusing on where the members felt most accepted and happy. These activities were well-structured and took into account the many accessibility needs of the group.

Learning from the support workers how best to assist and communicate with each person was very valuable and allowed us to provide one-to-one support to members struggling with certain tasks.

Together we created a 20-minute show which the members performed to their family and friends at the end of the process. We received amazing feedback from the staff, audience members, and participants.

"I have never seen so much community atmosphere in a performance until now. I enjoyed the fact that everyone was doing everything together."

- Carer

"It is a shame that you have to leave. We wish you could do more of this with them, they are clearly enjoying it a lot."

- Staff member

“The fact that you are working with people who have disabilities is so valuable."

- Parent
