Peak School Project

For my first project on behalf of Act 2, I led a series of theatre workshops at Peak School in Chinley which is specially designed to welcome pupils who experience a wide range of needs and difficulties.
These sessions used music and sensory props to discover what the participants most enjoyed doing. I soon found that dancing together was a great tool that encouraged the members to join in with more activities and gave them the chance to show off their individual skills. One student in particular was always very excited when I entered through the school gates because he knew he was about to do drama in the hall.
Using the contributions made by the group, I facilitated the creation of a 25 minute show that the members performed in front of their parents and teachers. When I asked the students their opinions afterwards, they said that they felt very happy and extremely proud of their work.
"It was so good, it was so nice, we were being fireworks." - Eva.
"My favourite was pretending to make the ice creams." - Rhianna.
"Molly has a pupil centred approach, taking time to get to know the students and their interests and using this information to inform her planning. She gives the students time to process and take part in activities."
