Our Vision Our Future

From January-March 2026, myself and assistant facilitator Niamh Duffy lead accessible workshops at Our Vision Our Future in Chesterfield which is a self-advocacy group for adults (ages ranging from 30-80) with learning disabilities.

These sessions used a variety of crafts and storytelling techniques to discover what the thirty participants most enjoyed doing. We soon found that creating and reading from a script was most beneficial as it gave a clear goal to work towards.

Using the contributions made by the group, we facilitated the creation of a 30 minute show that the members performed in front of their families and peers.

This was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone:

The audience liked watching the big group dances as well as participating in different parts of the play (clapping along, booing, throwing snowballs). One parent commented on the amazing acting skills shown by the group, especially the evil voices of the villains.

The performers all seemed incredibly happy and proud of what they had done, some even gave us thank you speeches at the end of the show. They were very sad to see us leaving and want us to come back again soon.
